5 Star Images • March 2007

I am quite happy with Lightroom. Yes, I really are. Because I am a lunatic when it comes to archiving — anything. But why am I writing this?
Because you have to understand a little about my crazy mind first. Take my mp3-collection, for instance: I own to every ripped album the CD1; the files are encoded in highest quality mode at 320 kb/s; the ID3-tags are meticulously filled with title, artist, track number of total tracks number, album name, genre, copyright and (sometimes even synced) lyrics. Plus scans of booklet, cover and inlays at 400dpi that are retouched in Photoshop that they look like as if they were coming straight out from InDesign2. Yes, I am proud of my craziness. But why am I writing this?
Because the same thing is happening in Lightroom: Thorough tagging of every frickin’ photo in dozens of categories, starting from location and photographer to visual descriptions, ratings and associations with the single picture. I am doing this backwards from when I purchased Lightroom, sometimes I pick one of my many digital photographs in the distant past and begin tagging there too. But why am I writing this?
Because I want to prepare you for the fact that every time I finish a complete month with tagging and developing my photos I am going to post the “best” photos of it — no not the “best”, let’s better say: the luckiest circumstances under which and of which a photo happened. And I usually tag these kind of photos with 4 or even 5 stars. They are not many. And sometimes they are really blunt (sunset anyone?) or amateurish (flower macros anyone?) but some of them are really interesting and beautiful in their own way. But why am I writing this?
Because here’s the first showcase of my personal selection for March 2007. Feel free to comment. And thanks for viewing!
